How to get the transcript of a TikTok video
Last updated November 3, 2026
TikTok has no transcript button. It can show auto-generated captions while a video plays, but you can't copy or download them. To get the words as text, paste the video's link into a transcript site. These sites work on public videos where someone speaks. To keep transcripts of the videos you save, use a tool that writes them down.

Does TikTok have a transcript feature?
Not one you can copy. TikTok shows auto-generated captions line by line as a video plays, but there's no full transcript to open or download.
Captions are made when a creator uploads, in the language they pick, and only eligible videos get them. Creators can edit or remove the lines afterward. (TikTok Support)
A guide that tested this in September 2026 found no way to select the caption text or export it as a file. You can read the captions. You can't take them with you. (transcript.you)
How to turn on captions while you watch
Tap Share on the side of the video, then Captions, then turn on Show captions. The option only appears on videos that have captions.
- Open the video in the TikTok app.
- Tap Share on the side of the post.
- Tap Captions at the bottom. You may need to scroll across to find it.
- Turn Show captions on.
How to get a TikTok transcript as text
Copy the video's link, then paste it into a TikTok transcript site. Most of them transcribe the audio, so they work on videos without captions too, as long as someone is talking.
- In the TikTok app, tap Share, then Copy link. On a computer, copy the address from the browser.
- Search for a TikTok transcript generator and paste the link into one. Many have a free tier.
- Read the text against the video before you quote it. Background music and people talking over each other cause mistakes.
These sites can't open private, deleted or region-blocked videos. A video with only music comes back empty, because there's no speech to write down. Some free tiers allow one transcript a day. (transcript.you)
Ways to get a TikTok's words, compared
TikTok's captions suit watching on mute, and a transcript site gets you one video as text. To search the words of every video you've saved, they have to be collected in one place.
| Captions in TikTok | A transcript site | Neatsaves | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Copy the words | No | Yes | Yes |
| Videos with no captions | Nothing to show | Usually, if someone speaks | On Pro, which watches the video |
| Search | No | One video at a time | Every video you saved, by keyword or meaning |
| Cost | Free | Often free, some with a daily cap | Free for up to 25 saves. Pro is $8 a month |
Keep transcripts of the TikToks you save, with Neatsaves
Neatsaves reads TikTok's auto-captions for every video you save, on every plan, and keeps the words with the save. You can read them, search them, or hand them to an AI agent.
- Save one video by pasting its link into Neatsaves or sharing it from your phone. With the Chrome extension installed, tapping Add to Favorites or Like on tiktok.com saves it too.
- For the videos you've already saved, the extension's Sync tab scrolls your TikTok Favorites and Likes to the end and sends each one over.
- Open a save and the words are under What's said. Search covers them, and a result shows the line your search words came from.
- When a video has no captions, Pro watches it and writes down what's said. That covers videos up to about 2 minutes, 50 a day.
- The JSON export includes each transcript. Over MCP, the get_save tool hands it to Claude Code or Cursor.
Free holds 25 saves. Pro is $8 a month or $72 a year and holds up to 25,000. Search by meaning and export work on both plans.
Questions
- Can you copy TikTok captions?
- Not in the app. TikTok shows auto-captions on screen while the video plays and offers no copy or download. A transcript site, or a tool like Neatsaves, turns the speech into text you can copy.
- Why don't I see captions on a TikTok?
- TikTok only shows captions on videos that have them. Not every video is eligible, and creators can remove captions from their own posts. If a video has them, check Share, then Captions, to see whether Show captions is off.
- Do transcript sites work on private TikToks?
- No. They fetch the video from its link, so private, deleted and region-blocked videos fail.
- How do I see the captions on my own TikTok?
- Open your video in the TikTok app, tap the caption, then tap Edit captions. You can read and fix each line there. To get them as one block of text, use a transcript site or save the video to Neatsaves.
- Does Neatsaves transcribe TikToks on the free plan?
- It reads TikTok's own auto-captions on every plan. Writing down the words of a video that has no captions takes Pro, which watches up to 50 videos a day.
