What Readwise does well
Readwise is the better reading app. It keeps articles, books and newsletters in one reader and brings your best highlights back with spaced repetition.
- Reader holds articles, PDFs, EPUBs, newsletters, RSS and YouTube in one queue, with highlighting and text-to-speech (pricing).
- Highlights from Kindle, Apple Books, Kobo and 40+ other sources land in one library, and a Daily Review resurfaces them (pricing).
- X threads turn into readable documents, and the X import can send bookmarks to Reader, Highlights or both (Readwise docs).
- Agents can read your library through its CLI, MCP server and API (pricing).
- Students and several other groups get 50% off.
Where Neatsaves is different
Readwise reads what you send it. Neatsaves goes and gets what you already liked or bookmarked on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and Reddit, then sorts it.
Readwise's pricing page lists X threads and YouTube videos but not TikTok or Instagram. Those two apps don't let any outside service read your saved list. The Neatsaves extension opens your TikTok favorites and Instagram saved posts in Chrome, where you're already signed in, and brings the whole list over.
Readwise organizes with tags and notes you add. Neatsaves reads each post, including the spoken words in a video, and files it under a category it names from your library. Then each save gets a next step, like the tool to try or the recipe to cook.
Price is the last difference. Readwise has a 30-day trial and no free plan after it. Neatsaves has a free plan, and Pro is $8 a month against Readwise's $12.99.
Using both
You could use both: Readwise for long reading, Neatsaves for the short posts and videos you save from your feeds.
Readwise is strongest on articles and books you plan to read closely. Neatsaves handles quick saves made while scrolling, like a TikTok recipe or an X post about a new tool. If you only want one, choose by where most of your saves start.
Who should pick Readwise, and who should pick Neatsaves
Pick Readwise if you read long articles and books and want your highlights back. Pick Neatsaves if your saves are social posts and short videos you never find again.
- Readwise fits readers. You save articles and newsletters to read later, highlight as you go, and want Kindle highlights in the same place.
- Neatsaves fits heavy savers on X, TikTok and Instagram. You want those lists sorted and searchable by meaning. It costs $8 a month, or nothing if you add under 100 new saves a month.
